Have a Happy St. Patrick's Day ... or ELSE!

Carrying on the theme of trying to celebrate as many holidays as we can (any good excuse for a party, right?), we celebrated St. Patrick's day.

We did a few jigs:

Had some Irish soda bread and stew (Ava's potatoes are from the stew):

Wore silly hats:

And had some shamrocks for dessert:

And then we danced some more ... mostly to this band. Happy St. Patrick's Day - and remember to take time to make some fun!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope everyone got the chance to celebrate their loved ones on Saturday. I know we sure did. We spent a whole day celebrating LOVE - we have so much in this family. Wishing you a love-ly 2009.

Father's Day and Thoughts

So, I realized that on Father's Day weekend, I was the one relaxing! Sorry, honey. Actually, we spent a lovely weekend at my parents' home spending a lot of time with family. Cornhole (or Bags, depending upon where you are from) was played, we grilled out, and the kids ran about 80 footraces across the lawn.

Don't let these relaxing images fool you. I am back and had to, once again, crawl back underneath my pile of work. As I incubate here, I will still try to find some time to get to work on my WIPs - lest they become UFOs. We wouldn't want that.

I hope you had a great weekend and a Happy Father's day. Dads are great, aren't they?

Easter, Sewing and Life

I feel so awful for not doing regular posts lately. You know how life gets in the way. Life has gotten in the way of my crafting lately as well. So, imagine how excited I was to finish a little Easter dress for my baby only to NOT wear it on Easter. Easter Sunday here had below freezing temperatures so we all just chucked our Easter finery for warm pants and sweaters.

We WILL be wearing our Easter finery on a day that probably should have been Easter this year. Wasn't it way too early? We usually take Easter photos by our forsythia shrubs outside of our house and they were still all asleep underneath snow. Yes, snow! Since the grandparents were here this weekend, Chandler was able to build his first snowman with Grandpa.

He was so proud of this little creation, and he kept taking out the snowman's arms and putting them back in, taking out the eyes and putting them back in. So, eventually, the poor snowman's arms had shrunk to hands and his eyeballs were partially stamped.

I really hope all you readers (all 10 or so of you) had a wonderful holiday weekend!

March

At least there is a holiday in March that promotes the color green. If only the out doors would take the hint and follow suit. I have loved shamrocks for a long time and went out and bought some gorgeous purple ones and these beautiful green ones. I am hoping these guys will last a long time since the previous shamrocks I owned lasted a very long time until my dad put them outside and the birds ate all of the roots. Apparently, these roots were mighty tasty.

How is everyone doing on their quilt for the quilt-a-long? I am still working on the last few blocks and will begin cutting out the 400+ squares for finishing the quilt sometime soon. You can see the quilter's progress here. There are some truly stunning quilts in this group. I can only hope to be that good some day.

Happy St. Pattie's!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is our valentine craft for Chandler's V-day party today. What 2-year old wouldn't appreciate googly eyes?

Party #1 Down, More to Come...

Isn't getting together with family this time of year fun? Okay, maybe not so much fun for everyone but for us, it was a great time. We just came back from family Christmas party #1 and will be taking some time off tomorrow before we rush off to the next holiday. We have been so busy this month, that we forgot to take the cushions off of our porch furniture before the snow came. Oh well! I think it looks very pretty - sort of like a Symphony in White still life by Whistler. Or maybe not.

Okay, so I can show some of my gift photos now that they have been given. Below are the many zip pouches that I was able to whip out for the many teachers at our day care center. I was nervous about giving these as gifts but they were met with lots of praise so I am glad they made the girls happy.

This little monkey went to my sweet niece, Naomi, along with one of the plush balls. I kept the other one for Ava to munch on.

Here is the monkey getting her first bit of lovin' from her new owner.

I hope this post finds everyone happy, healthy and having some fun with family and friends. Merry Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know, I know. This picture looks very different from a traditional Thanksgiving table. That's because it is. I haven't posted anything for a while and taking pictures of my new projects is very difficult because I have to go outside to get great light and it's snowing! So, I'll have to wait until next week to get some pictures up of my hand knits, jammies for the kiddos and some bags I'm working on.

This picture looked festive enough for a holiday post. It is from a wedding shower that I hosted a while back and my little dining room has never looked better. Don't you think? Mmmmm ... it's making me want a huge slice of that red velvet cake.

Yes, I also know that I have a quilt block to do this week too. That should be up on the site soon as well. Take
